RUST Development Updates Discussion

Post by Silvabakrev on 2nd April 2015, 12:06 am

REF: http://www.rustafied.com/

New terrain, ammo counter, perf and barricades.
April 1, 2015
6:55pm EST - The development branch finally updated a little while ago, however, the build appears to be pretty fu**ed. Along with pink menu items, clients are unable to connect to any servers, getting stuck at "Terrain Components."

lol, checked this morning and yeah pink menus and all servers down except a handful of official test server... I'm sure they will be working on it as I post. Likely be a server wipe because of it I'd think, but expect a few of those to happen.

Seems to be a major melt down at Rust HQ at the moment, their few official servers display but lock up on terrain load in.

I've seen three different players get on our server, but me and cracka cant after several tries, inc multiple server side steam updates etc...

Also the gametracker lists shows loads of populated servers?? http://www.gametracker.com/search/rust/AU/?searchipp=50#search which is weird cause they don't display on the in game lobby list for me or cracka?

Not sure what to do at the moment except wait and watch for any notices on the above posts cluster. I could wipe all data but I don't think that has anything to do with it... stay tuned.

"Disconnected Wrong Protocol Connection"
With Pink boxes in the in game lobby, few servers and cant get into any game. Googled, tried different suggestions etc... cleared cash, check compatability modes etc etc... Simply cant get onto any servers.

Down to uninstalling Rust and re-installing then will try again. Failing that I'm almost out of ideas. Sounds like Cracka has a similar problem, where as loony did nothing but his client auto update (same as me) and gets on no problem?

Full uninstall and reinstall and same problem.
"Disconnected Wrong Protocol Connection"

Will do some more googling on nightshift to try and find out what is doing this.

Seems a common error with no fixes?
https://steamcommunity.com/app/252490/discussions/0/610574827764003851/

Appears to be a version mismatch somehow, either Client or Server is not updated properly? However others can get on fine?

Will keep waiting for a fix/next update at this stage as it seems a common error and likely related to the development side of things.

Rev
Looks like Rustafieds Dev Branch updated 2 hours ago.  They Wiped their server and updated.  Don't know what a 'Wipe' entails now days Rev .... or if the update does it automatically.
http://www.rustafied.com/

Also .. these lads post their new map seeds when ever they wipe.  A little research, and you could do the same for Sector 26, if you so chose.

http://www.rustaforum.com/topic/197-map-of-the-current-seed/

This is their latest. Shows a few remananents and features .... including Rad towns, Hangars, Caves etc.

Okay after a lot of fault finding trial end error and Loony's help have found what the issues is with not being able to join our server. (and Spriggy ahs some issue)

My Client is upto date with the latest version. So can get on around 20 latest dev servers.

Our Server is hosted through Streamline and although I've done a full wipe and steam version update, it is a version behind, which loony and others can get on!?!

What does this mean, it means that we'll have to wait for streamline to update their files to the latest so when I update via them it will bring the version up to date with the latest server files.

In the meantime us with the latest updates can join the odd server as they are updated.

Update, finally worked out the issue. Make sure under you Steam Games/Properties/Betas you select 'Stable -' then you should be able to get on Sector 26 fine.

From what I've read, Server map wipes and full Server wipes (incl. wiped blueprints) are different.  I've seen mention amongst the Rustafied rolling comments, that lead me to believe that you can do a full map wipe (and new seed) WITHOUT a Blueprint wipe.  So, its possible the next map update MAY NOT automatically mean a profile blueprint wipe.

Time will tell.  In fact .... I'll do some research now.

#Edit# .. Found the above mentioned comment up on Rustafied, actually relating to the new big procedural map terrain improvements.

Terrain improvements

Andre has been busting his ass getting the terrain-improvements branch ready to go this week. As you may recall from Friday's devblog, this encompasses all the changes to the procedural mapping he’s been working on for the past month. As of now, it is not been merged into main, so we have no visuals quite yet. That said, you better believe I’ll be posting a bunch of pictures as soon as I can. Keep in mind, these changes will force a map wipe game wide (but no forced blueprint wipes).

Also pretty much found a comment that answers map and blueprint wipes.  Found under old offical RUST Devblog #43

Gary: "The blueprint data is decoupled from the map save data. So if your server administrator likes, he can wipe the map but keep your blueprint states. In the future I want to look at making the way this data is saved my available to server mods so server providers with multiple servers can share blueprint/player data between them."

The main control panel has different data files for players and the procedural map, so with an update we should only have to delete the map data and not touch the player data?

Note even though they release new updates, our hosts streamline could be upto a week behind in updating access to any new rust updates, so they may not come immediately.

Holy fu** do we have a big update today! Two solid weeks of functionality and a sexy new terrain has a lot of people excited. Map wipes will be forced across the board, however, blueprints will carry over (unless your server owner intentionally clears them).

Weekly Devblog out again.

http://playrust.com/devblog-57/

The devs are doing some gr8 work .. with some cool stuff coming up soon.  As mentioned by Gary at the bottom of this weeks Devblog .. the big re-coding they did with new Rust, delaying early development, is now starting to pay off.  Big fixs, updates and features are constantly getting added weekly!!!

Still a way to go yet ... but amazing things in the concept stages!  Falling back in love with Rust again!!

Oh .. Revinski ... Garys last comment at the end of this weeks Devblog.  FYI

"Next week is a compulsory wipe week too, but please don’t wreck your servers just in-case the patch is delayed."

Re: RUST Development Updates Discussion

Post by Spriggamortis on 25th April 2015, 1:02 am

Some information for the new players on RUST.

As you've probably already noticed .. and read here on our forums .. Rust is developing at a scary rate.  Solid weekly updates, containing new ellements, new physics, new features etc.  But with these frantic new developments and updates, comes new bugs!

Gary and the Devs do a great job, jumping on the bugs asap and rolling out fixes.  On the Dev Branch, this means daily updates at times.  But on the default Main Branch, same branch as Sector 26 and most servers out there, these bug fixes usually roll out with the next weekly updated.  Occassionaly, Main Branch may receive an out of cycle (non weekly) small patch to fix major game breaking bugs.

If you notice bugs after the weekly patch .. and start cursing and swearing at yourself and the game ... and before you start posting a million questions on our forums .. hit up http://www.rustafied.com/  I always mention this website resource.  And for good reason.  The main page is a running blog of the latest RUST info, features, ellements, bugs etc.  Gary and the Rustafied crew work closely together, with the Rustafied servers (1 x dev branch and 1 x main branch) being Garys main source for testing and feedback.

Hence ... you can be pretty sure .. if your seeing problems in game, Rustafied.com will be speaking about it and discussing current or future fixes.

Enjoy

Friday Devblog #60 now out .. and WOW!   You'll need a coffee for this one .. but well worth it.  Other developers need to take a big leaf out of their book.

http://playrust.com/devblog-60/

Some awesome stuff knocking on the door.  Electric lighting .. janky crafted automatic pistol .. automated resource gathering machines ... plethora of different ammo .. miners hat ... bone weapons ...

Rust players need to read this one.    They have turned up the heat recently and its not stopping!!  They appear to have a good balance of performance/bug fixes and new content.
